Local Culinary Talents, Chef Devon Hou and Chef Daniel Chan Join Gingers with Feste Group Amidst the Gingers Relaunch

MAY 12TH, 2022

Two of Hong Kong’s local gastronomy talents, Chef Devon Hou and Chef Daniel Chan have joined Feste Group as Group Executive Chef and Group Chef de Cuisine respectively.  Feste Group, owned by female entrepreneur and influencer, Abby Cadman, consists of the two leading catering companies Gingers and Relish.  While Hou will be overseeing both culinary teams, Chan will specifically be headlining the kitchen for Gingers.

With over 10 years of experience including three years as Sous Chef in the French restaurant, Junon, Daniel Chan knows his way around the kitchen.  His French influence and passion for food make him excited to combine novel flavours with comforting classics, leading him to be the perfect addition to Gingers who focuses on simple, delicious food.

Chan says that “this is a great opportunity to further develop my knowledge and skills in the food industry in a completely different capacity.  I’m looking forward to stepping up and bringing my energy to the Gingers kitchen.”

On the other hand, Devon Hou’s Michelin star-studded résumé emanates innovation and creativity.  She has worked at some of the city’s top restaurants including the likes of Amber at the Landmark Mandarin Oriental and Tate Dining Room, and more recently as Head Chef of Test Kitchen and Cobo House. Her 18 years of experience, extensive skill set, sharp tastes, and humble curiosity makes her a powerful asset to not only Gingers but the Feste Group at large.

“From my initial meeting with Abby and Tegan, I had an immediate feeling that this was the right new challenge for me. Being in the industry for so long, I’m used to how things run in a restaurant, but catering is a whole different world.  I’m excited to come up with creative new dishes for this environment and get to support and work with a brand new team,” says Hou.

“We’re so excited to have our newly appointed Group Executive Chef, Devon Hou, and Gingers Head Chef, Daniel Chan, to continue the Gingers story with a fresh and modern approach to catering,” says Tegan Waters, the General Manager of Gingers.  “Running a restaurant is easy as you have your kitchen with you at all times, but catering is food reimagined outside of your comfort zone.  From make-shift kitchens, plating canapés at seas, feeding 500 people with only two hobs available, it’s exciting and no two jobs are ever the same. Devon and Daniel have taken on this challenge and Gingers is back and better than ever.”

Coming out of Hong Kong’s fifth-wave lockdown, Gingers has undergone a relaunch with a brand new office and website. Founded in 2001, they focus on combining international cuisines with Asian flavours, bringing delicious food to all events ranging from corporate functions and networking events to family gatherings and lavish weddings. With over 20 years of experience and thousands of satisfied customers, they have become a household name and institution for catering in Hong Kong.

They have since moved their operations from Sai Ying Pun to Wong Chuk Hang in April 2022. The new Gingers website, which launched in May 2022, features a sleek and contemporary design as well as brand new menus for customers to choose from. Not to worry though, the Gingers classics and favourites are all still available.
